Anti-biotics - Chemical substances made by certain fungi/bacteria → affecting the working of bacterial cells [DISRUPTING - STRUCTURE, FUNCTION or REPRODUCTION]

Penicillin - prod. fungus

  1. Penicillin targets an enzyme which helps in cell wall construction
  2. This disrupts proper assembly of the cell wall
  3. This makes it so that the the wall cannot handle the internal pressure of the bacteria
  4. When the cell tries to grow, it bursts open due to the pressure difference, leading to death

PREVENTING REPRODUCTION IS SAME AS KILLING SINCE -

  1. Bacteria have a short life cycle
  2. Hence they die quick naturally and arent replaced

Why Not Virus - Virus lacks bacterial features

  1. Rely on host cells for reproduction
  2. No cell wall
  3. No cell structure
