Data Packets -
Large amounts of data cant be transmitted at once, so its broken down into small units of data called packets.
Packet = Packet Header, Payload & Trailer
Packet Header -
- Destination Address [IP Address of where data is being sent]
- Packet Number [For correct sequencing]
- Originators Address [For tracking of illegal activities, Resending data because of errors]
Payload -
- The actual data being sent
Trailer -
- Indication Marker [To show that this is the end of the packet]
- Data for any error detection system
Packet Switching
Network - Computers and devices connected to each other via cables or wireless connections
Router - Device that examines and obtains a data pack, identifies its address and sends it to said address
