Enzymes → Catalysts [Speed up rate of reaction without being changed or used up] [Proteins]

Enzymes are specific to 1 substrate [Molecule that gets broken down]

They use a lock and key model [Enzymes active site is complementary to the substrate shape]

When enzyme and substrate join → Called “Enzyme Substrate Complex”

Enzymes and substrates = Random movement

Impact On Temperature -

  1. Starch solution is set at a certain temperature
  2. Iodine is added to wells of a spotting tile
  3. Amylase is added to solution
  4. Every minute drops of solution → Added to wells
  5. This continues till the wells no longer turn blue black [Starch is now present → Amylase isn't breaking it down anymore]

Untitled

Eventually temperature gets so high the enzyme gets denatures → Shape of active site gets altered

Impact Of pH -

  1. Set up iodine in the wells of a spotting tile
