Photosynthesis - The process by which plants manufacture carbohydrates from raw materials (co2 and water) using (converted chemical) energy from light.

Chlorophyll - Green pigment found in chloroplasts → converts light energy into chemical energy

Products Of Photosynthesis [USES] -

The carbohydrates can be used for:

Minerals [USES] -

Ion - Use - Deficiency -
Magnesium Make chlorophyl Yellowing between veins [Chlorosis]
Nitrogen Make amino acids [proteins] Stunted growth and yellow leaves

Tests [Chlorophyll, Light, CO2] -

Starch Test -

  1. leaf → beaker of boiling water [Break down cell walls]
  2. Leaf → ethanol test tube → boiling water bath [Chlorophyll is soluble in ethanol, removing all the green pigment and allowing for visible colour change]
  3. wash the leaf in cold water to remove ethanol
  4. Spread out leaf and drop iodine solution [Turns blue = Starch present, Remains orange-brown = No starch]
