2.1 - Mixtures, Solutions and Solvents

Mixture - 2+, compounds or elements, not chemically bonded.

Solubility - The mass of a solute[g] that can be dissolved in 100g of water in 25 degrees c

Soluble - Can be dissolved

Insoluble - Cannot be dissolved

Effect Of Temperature -

A soluble solid gets more soluble as the temperature rises. [More energy → Faster particles → More collisions → Faster rate in temperature → Quicker Dissolving and increased solubility]

A solution is called saturated when it can dissolve no more solute at that temperature

Aqueous Solution - A solution which has water as the solvent

Volatile Liquids - Liquids that evaporate easily

2.2 - Pure substances and impurities

Pure Substance - A pure substance has no other substances mixed with it

Impurity - An unwanted substance mixed with wanted substances

Testing for purity -
